Calendar Change!!There has been a change in the 2011-2012 school year calendar. There will be no school on Friday, May 25th due to a furlough day. Superintendent's Parent & Community ForumsTVUSD Superintendent, Tim Ritter will host four Parent & Community Forums this year to give parents and community members an opportunity to hear about the state of the district. During the forums, Mr Ritter will facilitate discussions about current issues impacting education and TVUSD. For more information click HERE to download the forum letter. A message from Ms. WrightThis is an exciting and important time of year for our students in grades two-five. All of our students in these grades will be taking the state tests (CST or CMA) in English Language Arts and Math during the week of May 7. Fifth graders also take the state test in Science. These mulitiple choice tests are designed to assess student mastery of the grade level content for the entire year. It is important that students do their very best in order to show us what they know! We are able to obtain a lot of valuable information regarding your child's progress in school from these tests. There are several things to keep in mind as we all prepare: *It is important that all students come to school well-rested and fed during this week. A good breakfast will help him/her concentrate. *Students need to be on time during testing week. Students who arrive late will be held in the front office until the class has finished testing for the day. Research shows that students test best with their own class, so we want to avoid students having to do make-up testing. Please try to schedule appointments after school hours. *Encourage and talk to your child about doing his/her best. Remind him/her to take his time and make sure to look over his work. Give positive encouragement! *Make sure your child gets a good night's sleep. We want our students to be fresh and alert each day. These tests are only one piece in a large puzzle of how students are doing in school. Student work samples, report cards, and teacher and parent observations also play a large role. Scores are usually available and mailed to parents in mid-July. Contact your child's teacher, Ms. Wright, or Mrs. Wierenga if you have any questions or need more information. Thank you in advance for your continued support!
Thank you
